The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) publishes its annual pricing review of NDIS support items following the commencement of the new financial year on July 1. We recently had the opportunity to attend a consultation with the NDIA, to review its updated rates and changes to its underlying Disability Support Worker Cost Pricing Model.

The changes to the Pricing Arrangements and Pricing Limits can affect the servicing that businesses are able to provide to participants, and in some instances give access to new supports, or remove funding for supports currently undertaken. Here’s an overview of key changes.

Supported Independent Living & Community Access

The hourly and daily claiming rates for these services have been uplifted across the board. These changes have been made to reflect the uplift to Disability Support Worker hourly pay in the latest revision of the SCHADS award, at the same rate. Key rate uplifts include Assistance with Supported Independent Living – Standard – Weekday Daytime increasing from $65.47 to $67.56, and STA and Assistance – 1:1 – Weekday increasing from $2,033.53 to $2,098.80, both representing an increase of 3.2%.

Support Coordination

Level 1 Support Coordination Rates have been increased from $74.63 to $77 across all states after consultation and feeback from providers as part of the support worker cost model review. Level 2 and 3 Support Coordination rates remain unchanged, however guidance was provided in the latest NDIA pricing update to indicate there would be an overhaul to these support items over the coming financial year.

Therapy Supports

Therapy support rates have been increased in the 2025 financial year for Psychologists only. The NDIA specifically addressed the rates for other allied health professionals providing therapy supports in their pricing review, and concluded that the rates were appropriate at this time.

Group Activities

The standard group activity rates have been increased identically to Supported Independent Living & Community Access rates. Group Activities – Standard – Weekday Daytime has increased from $65.47 to $67.56, an increase of 3.2%. We believe it important to highlight this support category, as activities previously claimable under the “Centre Based Group Activities” rates in the 2024 financial year must now be claimed under these rates, with the Centre Based Group support item claim codes having been discontinued.

New Support Items

This year’s pricing review has introduced several new support items claimable by NDIS businesses on behalf of their participants.

There are 8 new claimable consumable supports introduced for Continence items for participants, which are claimable at a 1:1 cost for the items. This has been introduced to allow for more clear guidance on the ability to claim these items. In addition to this, there have been added support item codes for renovations, repairs and additions required for Supported Independent Living & Short Term Accommodation homes specifically regarding bathrooms.

There is a new support item in “Assistive Technology Mentoring” designed to allow participants to receive guidance, training, and support from an existing user of assistive technologies. This is designed to allow participants to make more informed decisions with their funding in this space. This is claimable at an hourly rate of $101.42.

There is also a new support item for “Employment Assistance” claimable at the Level 1 Support Coordination rate of $77 per hour. This support item has been introduced in response to feedback from service providers who have indicated there was a high demand from their participants for assistance in securing paid employment. This covers activities such as resume writing assistance, and interview preparation.
