Payday Super will commence on 1 July 2026. This is one of the most significant changes to payroll compliance in many years.

If you pay employees, you must ensure your business is fully prepared well before the deadline.

Payday Super Requirements For Employers

These new laws require all employers to pay Superannuation Guarantee (SG) contributions at the same time they pay wages, rather than quarterly. Contributions must then reach your employees’ super funds within seven business days of payday.

The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) will also close on 30 June 2026, so businesses using this service must transition to an alternative payment method.

How To Prepare For Payday Super

It is time to review your current payroll processes to ensure your current systems can calculate and process SG for every pay run. If you run payroll weekly, fortnightly or monthly, super payments will follow that same frequency.

For those using Xero, the good news is that Xero is actively updating its payroll and auto‑super features to support Payday Super. Xero already calculates SG within each pay run and will guide employers through compliance as updates roll out.

If you currently rely on the ATO’s SBSCH, you will need to move to a different clearing house or use Xero’s integrated auto‑super service before 30 June 2026.

If you are currently using Xero for payroll and taking advantage of automatic super this will ensure this change is relatively seamless. However, if you are using an alternative solution, it is imperative you confirm it will remain compatible with your obligations.
